Polyurethane dispersions are the binder of choice in many more coatings applications than you might imagine.
Water-based polyurethane dispersions put the stain-resistance in automotive interior plastic paints, the lubricity in fly-fishing line coatings, the durability in general aviation hanger floors, and the crispness in sail cloth.
They come with a wide variety of performance characteristics that allow the formulator to fine tune the preferred coating properties. In fact, if you haven’t imagined polyurethanes in your formulation, you’re missing the opportunity to impart abrasion- and chemical-resistance, toughness, flexibility and a lustrous finish to your coating.

Hauthane Polyurethane Dispersions are available in:
Aromatic Grades
Based on unsaturated isocyanates, these grades are very economical, but yellow with exposure to UV light.
Laminating Adhesive Grades
Designed for laminating film to paper, film to film and film to foil composites.
Polycarbonate-Based (NMP-Containing)
Provide superior hydrolytic stability versus polyester and polyether-based grades in standard hydrolysis testing.
OH-Functional Grades
Intended for use in 2-part coatings systems with water-dispersible isocyanates.
Water-Based, UV-Curable Grades
Co-Solvent Free Grades
Provide the formulator with a very low VOC content base resin. Some grades will require the addition of co-solvent to attain optimal film formation at ambient temperatures.
NMP-Free (DMM-Based) / APEO-Free Grades
An alternative to traditional NMP-based products, these grades offer the possibility of formulating “eco-friendly” coatings.
Flame Retardant Grades
Polymer chains contain unleachable, halogen components to reduce flame spread on coated textiles. Coatings based on these products provide true color capability.
Polyester-Based Grades (NMP-Containing)
Contain n-methyl pyrrolidone co-solvent. Generally, polyester-based grades offer enhanced chemical and stain-resistance properties over polyether-based products.
